Copalis Beach on the Olympic Peninsula

August 2, 2021

We've been on the Olympic Peninsula since July 12, and we've been without WIFI the whole time. Sometimes even our cell phones didn't work. We're spending our last night on the peninsula in Port Townsend, WA in the Port Townsend Harbor Marina and RV Park overlooking the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Admiralty Inlet, so we can catch the ferry to Whidbey Island in the morning. Yay, the campground has WIFI! There was so much to see on the peninsula. I'll start with Copalis Beach.

Copalis Beach is located on the Pacific coast on the southern end of the Olympic Peninsula just north of the resort town of Ocean Shores. We stayed at the Copalis Beach Resort RV Park from July 12-19. Don't let the word "resort" fool you. It was a no-frills campground. The main benefit was its accessibility to the Pacific Ocean. We just had to walk from our RV along a short path to be on the beach. It was beautiful.

The weather on most days was overcast and foggy.

The sand near the water was firm which made for easy walking. We took a lot of long walks on the beach.

Gulls were everywhere!

We spotted a bald eagle in the fog.

He flew away with his catch.

The eagle left talon prints in the sand.

We finally got some blue sky. The beach had a whole different look without the fog.

Semi-palmated plovers and sanderlings hugging the shore as they try to outrun the waves. They all seem to move to a new spot at the same time.

We occasionally saw people on horseback along the beach.

During our stay, we took a side trip to Ocean Shores to kayak in the canal and dinner at Bennet's Seafood Shack.

We ended our stay with a beautiful sunset.

We took another side trip about 45 minutes north to the Quinault Rainforest in Olympic National Park. I will talk about that in my next post.
